Makusham signifies, in the Innu language, a big feast or
great festivities. In the past, this meant celebration of family
reunions or the departure for the hunt. The makushan, contrary to
popular belief, is not the traditional dance. However, this dance
is an integral part of the makushan. The drum, the teueikan, is
used during this event by the eldest of the tribe who accompanies
himself with a song that speaks of his dreams. It also provides
